Health insurance covers 94.4 million medical visits in H1
Vietnam’s health insurance system covered about 94.4 million medical examinations and treatments in the first half of 2026, according to Vietnam Social Security (VSS). The figure was presented at a nationwide online conference on July 30 reviewing implementation of health insurance policies and discussing measures to control spending for the rest of 2026. By end of June, 3,672 medical facilities nationwide had signed up, including 2,354 public and 1,318 private establishments—26 more than in 2025. Inpatient care represented 10.3% of total cases, slightly higher than the previous year. Total spending reached 84.77 trillion VND (3.22 billion USD), up 11.1% year-on-year. VSS said rising healthcare costs require tighter claims assessment, stronger enforcement, and expanded digital monitoring using data analytics and AI.
