Uganda’s Sunday Rotary Cancer Run raised at least sh5.62 billion at the Kololo Ceremonial Grounds, surpassing organisers’ expectations. The group said they had faced a shortfall of sh6 billion needed to complete a cancer centre at St Francis Hospital, Nsambya, planned to be funded through two runs in 2026 and 2027. This year’s collection was driven by the sale of 100,000 participant kits and sponsor contributions, with all kits selling out. The funds will support construction and equipping of a specialized radiotherapy centre, including two linear accelerators. Organizers also marked a minute of silence for the late Tooro king, Oyo Nyimba Rukidi IV.
