Home-Based Rehabilitation Could Close Care Gaps for Younger Patients With
A study in Germany suggests the country’s otherwise extensive rehabilitation system leaves a major gap for younger patients. In a cross-sectional expert survey of 136 professionals, published in BMC Health Services Research, services were judged to fall short for people under 60 living with complex, multiple impairments. Researchers led by Christoph Armbruster, Christian Schlett, and Erik Farin-Glattacker of the University of Freiburg explored whether home-based rehabilitation (HbR) delivered across medical indications could bridge the divide. The online survey ran March to May 2024 and was registered in advance under DRKS00029068. Experts reported that current outpatient and inpatient silos don’t fit patients whose needs span neurological, musculoskeletal, and psychological domains.
