Jacob "Jake" Ayers, Glasgow

Jacob “Jake” Sowers Ayers, 91, died July 15, 2026, at Skyline Medical Center in Nashville, according to an obituary notice. Born in Lexington, North Carolina, he was the youngest of five children of Spurgeon and Ola Ayers and later studied at Lexington High School, Stetson University in Florida, and Southern Baptist Seminary in Kentucky. He retired from the Commonwealth of Kentucky Disability Determination Services, but the role he valued most was Minister of Music at Glasgow Baptist Church from 1959 to 1967, where he worked especially with children’s choirs. After spending much of his adult life in Louisville, he moved to Highland Ridge in June 2025 and, in the past year, reconnected with former choir members now grown. He is survived by Katherine Ayers and multiple nieces in North Carolina and Texas, with several family members listed as predeceased. Services are scheduled for 12 noon on Wednesday, July 22, 2026 at Hatcher and Saddler Funeral Home in Glasgow, with a graveside service July 25 at 11:00 a.m. EDT in Louisville. Memorial contributions are requested for St Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis in lieu of flowers.
