Jalen Hurts joins Serena Williams, Chris Bosh among athletes who battled blood clots
Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts was diagnosed this week with blood clots in both lungs, a condition that could end his NFL season. According to a statement from Hurts’ agent on Oct. 19, he was first diagnosed in London last week with superficial vein thrombosis in his calf for the Eagles’ Oct. 11 game against the Jaguars. The clots then traveled to his lungs, leading to a current diagnosis of deep vein thrombosis with bilateral pulmonary emboli. Hurts will be treated with blood thinners, which carry a higher risk of serious bleeding, including internal bleeding. As a result, he will not participate in contact activities and is unlikely to play again this season. The article also cites other athletes with similar experiences, including Serena Williams, Chris Bosh, and Victor Wembanyama.
