A statement from his family said he died on Monday, July 13, in Sydney, Australia, surrounded by loved ones. The family described his passing as sudden and unexpected, while noting he remained cancer-free at the time. It also thanked the staff at St Vincent’s Private Hospital for their care and said more details would be shared later, requesting privacy. Neill is widely known for playing Dr. Alan Grant in Jurassic Park and for appearing as Major Chester Campbell in the first two series of Peaky Blinders. Born in Northern Ireland, he moved to Christchurch in 1954 and studied at the University of Canterbury. In March 2023, Neill revealed he had been undergoing chemotherapy since March 2022 for stage 3 angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma, and later said CAR T-cell therapy showed him cancer-free.
