Kombucha really good for your health?
A study led by Aberystwyth University tested whether kombucha has measurable health effects over time. Researchers ran an eight-week, randomized controlled, double-blind trial with 40 healthy participants: one group drank a controlled kombucha drink daily, while the other received a placebo of flavored water. Urine and blood samples were analyzed before and after the intervention to look for changes tied to compounds found in kombucha, including polyphenols. The trial found identifiable markers suggesting improved levels of compounds associated with better health. However, the researchers found no effect on stress response in tests. Lead researcher Dr. Amanda Lloyd said the team also partnered with psychologists to examine wellness effects and design a product with potentially active compounds; the project is funded by Innovate UK and involved Conwy Kombucha.
