Readers of the Arkansas Democrat Gazette piled into letters reacting to an Aug. 28 column by Robert Steinbuch. Critics said his language belittled Hillcrest residents and took shots at individuals rather than debating issues. Jan Baker of Little Rock argued Steinbuch’s remarks were “thin-skinned,” and called the personal jab at former constitutional law professor John Pagan “tacky.” She also pushed back on the suggestion that Arkansas PBS supporters should “wind their necks in,” saying viewers want programming such as PBS NewsHour and answers about world events at 6 p.m. Other letters include a political rebuttal using a W.H. Auden quote and a humorous renaming proposal involving Panda Express and Gov. Sarah Sanders.
