Maddy Cusack's physio had fears over team-mates' mental health
Maddy Cusack’s physio had fears over team-mates' mental health, according to evidence heard at an inquest into the former Sheffield United player’s death. Cusack took her own life on September 20, 2023, and the court heard that Sheffield United’s transition to full professionalism coincided with concerns raised by physio Francesca Carr. Carr said the change from part-time operations was “rushed” and involved moving women’s training away from the men’s Shirecliffe facilities to less private, lower-standard premises. She described a lack of confidential meeting space and said minimum league requirements, including emergency medical equipment, were not being met. Carr also said she had sent emails “on numerous occasions,” while Jonathan Morgan, who took charge in February 2023, denied wrongdoing. The inquest also heard Cusack had other club duties in marketing.
