Meet 'Project 2029' -- and its war on the annoyance economy | WNYC
Project 2029 focuses on taking on the “annoyance economy,” a set of frustrating business practices that cost time and money, including hidden fees, difficult subscription cancellations, insurance paperwork, long call hold times, robocalls, and spam texts. The initiative is being assembled as a future Democratic governing blueprint, echoing the role “Project 2025” played for conservatives ahead of the Trump administration, which later pursued many of its proposals. The effort is led by Chad Maisel, executive director, who previously served as a special assistant to President Biden on the White House Domestic Policy Council. Project 2029 is still early, with proposals released on a rolling basis over the next year or so. A key preview involves work with Stanford economist Neale Mahoney on quantifying the economic impact of these practices.
