Midlothian mum dismissed by doctors hits out as women 'suffering avoidable deaths' in Scotland

A new report has renewed calls to address gender-related gaps in Scotland’s healthcare after women who say they were dismissed by doctors described missed warning signs and delayed diagnoses. Angela Bradley, 56, from Midlothian, said she repeatedly sought care for breathing problems over two years before being hospitalized, after which she was diagnosed with COPD and eventually referred to pulmonary rehab. She later suffered a brain hemorrhage and stroke, additional aneurysms, hospital periods, and a second stroke in February. Another case highlighted is Jenny Glennie, 47, a former headteacher who said the early symptoms of a stroke were brushed off as menopause or stress, forcing her retirement after lasting impairments. Chest, Heart and Stroke Scotland warned that four in five women report not being taken seriously and that women are 50% more likely than men to receive an initial misdiagnosis after a heart attack.
