New Equation Predicts Tacrolimus Induction Dose in Kidney Transplant
xCruzo Brief
A Spanish study is trying to solve a dosing problem that affects many kidney-transplant patients taking tacrolimus, a widely used immunosuppressant with a narrow therapeutic window. Researchers at the General University Hospital of Elche in Alicante, Spain, report that only 30% of recipients reached optimal tacrolimus blood concentrations using the standard weight-based induction regimen of 0.10 mg/kg every 12 hours. The team proposes a predictive equation that could raise the rate to 76%. The retrospective analysis covered patients treated between January 2019 and January 2024 and was published in Advances in Therapy.
