Piedmont to Invest Nearly $600 Million in Relocation Hospital in Newton County, Ga.

Piedmont, the Georgia health system, has filed a Letter of Determination with the Georgia Department of Community Health to build a relocation hospital for Piedmont Newton Hospital in Covington, Georgia. The planned project is expected to cost nearly $600 million, fully funded by Piedmont, and would become the organization’s second-largest capital undertaking after the Marcus Tower opened in 2020. Piedmont says Newton County, about 35 miles east of Atlanta, has more than 112,000 residents and that the current 128-bed facility is constrained by aging, landlocked infrastructure. The relocation aims to modernize care and support growth along the I-20 corridor.
