Russian Strike Destroyed Millions of H.I.V. Prevention Supplies in Ukraine

A Russian missile strike destroyed a warehouse near Kyiv about two weeks ago, wiping out 62 million HIV prevention items in Ukraine, according to aid groups. The attack was part of a broader campaign hitting civilian infrastructure, including power plants, shopping centers and hospitals, aimed—military analysts say—at worsening day-to-day life and causing psychological strain. The loss does not affect treatment for roughly 250,000 people living with HIV in Ukraine, but it could hinder efforts to stop new infections. The shipment destroyed, worth about $3 million, covered supplies for 2027, and if not replaced by November, estimates suggest at least 16,000 new cases next year.
