Shark Week. West Palm man recounts 10-second shark attack in Bahamas
xCruzo Brief
A West Palm Beach man, Michael Reich, described a 10-second shark attack he survived while spearfishing in the Bahamas. On July 15, Reich said he was fishing off the islands when a shark he suspects was a bull or reef type latched onto his left elbow, shaking him for a few seconds before releasing him. Reich stayed calm, swam back to his boat, and his wife Jill used a cast net to reach a tourniquet while they rushed to Spanish Cay. After a one-night stay in Nassau, he returned to Florida for multiple surgeries at St. Mary’s Medical Center. He plans to recover fully, wearing an extended sling for at least three weeks.
