Siemens unveils Accela radiotherapy system

Siemens Healthineers introduced its new radiotherapy system, Accela, on September 27 at the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) annual meeting in Boston. The system is built around NeoArc, a dynamic modulated arc therapy (DMAT) technique designed to deliver stereotactic treatment within a single breath hold, and to complete multisite SBRT in as little as 60 seconds, according to the company. Siemens says Accela’s planning software uses AI and optimization algorithms to balance plan quality and delivery speed. The linear accelerator includes a HyperSight cone-beam CT imaging panel, a redesigned multileaf collimator, 2.5 revolutions per minute gantry rotation, dose rates up to 40 Gy/min, and an 8-MV flattening filter-free setting. Accela is pending FDA clearance.
