He found a lump on his chest in mid-July following a casual conversation about breast cancer and initially suspected it was fatty or scar tissue from a teenage piercing after searching online. Encouraged by his partner, he saw a doctor within days; tests soon followed, and three weeks later doctors told him he had stage two breast cancer. Within 21 days he underwent a full mastectomy of his left breast area, with tissue sent to the US for further evaluation. Depending on a score below or above 25, he will take Tamoxifen for five years or undergo eight months of chemotherapy, and he carries a BRCA2 gene mutation.
