Swimmers will cross Long Island Sound to raise millions for cancer

Swimmers will cross Long Island Sound to raise millions for cancer, with nearly 1,000 people expected to gather in Larchmont on Saturday, July 25, for the 34th annual Swim Across America–Long Island Sound open-water event. The fundraiser backs cancer research, patient care and support services at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Columbia University Medical Center, Weill Cornell Medicine and Cancer Support Team. Organizers are targeting $2.5 million this year, building on more than $32 million generated since the first Westchester County swim in 1992. The program includes 2-kilometer and 5-kilometer point-to-point swims from the Larchmont Yacht Club to the Larchmont Shore Club, plus a 10-kilometer crossing from Glen Cove, Long Island, to Larchmont. A half-mile pool swim is also planned at Larchmont Shore Club. The day begins with 5:30 a.m. departures.
