Two men die after entering sea to help children at North East beach
Two men died after entering the sea to help children at Seaton Carew, while the youngsters were confirmed safe, police said. Officers were called after reports that two children were struggling in the water at the beach, with the incident occurring at about 3:45pm on Sunday, July 12. Police said the men were recovered from the water by the RNLI and then received urgent medical treatment, but both were declared dead shortly afterwards. The two children were taken to hospital for precautionary checks, and specialist officers provided support to both families. Superintendent Glen Ward said the deaths were not being treated as suspicious and an inquiry file would be prepared for the coroner. The RNLI, Coastguard, and North East Ambulance Service responded, and a Great North Air Ambulance Service crew was also requested.
