Accused murderer arrested while trying to board cruise ship in Florida, deputies say

Accused murderer Martell Murray was arrested in Florida while trying to board a cruise ship at Port Canaveral, authorities said, underscoring how warrants can surface even during vacation travel. Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey said deputies encountered multiple passengers with outstanding warrants or alleged probation violations during the July 17 checkpoint. Murray, 24, of Georgia, was taken into custody on an out-of-state fugitive warrant tied to pending murder charges and alleged violations of his release conditions; jail records showed he was booked without bond. His travel companion, Kenderia Burney, 24, was also held on a violation-of-probation warrant. Both remained in custody as of Wednesday. Additional arrests included Veronica Hamlet, 38, booked on a failure-to-appear warrant with $1,000 bond and released the next day, and James Otha Brewton, 66, released July 18 after $500 bond. Deputies also stopped two other unnamed travelers returning from their cruise and alleged they left the country without permission while on felony probation.
