Action underway at The K Club as GB&I and the U.S. battle for PGA Cup glory - Irish Golfer Magazine
Play has officially begun at The K Club as Great Britain and Ireland take on the United States for the PGA Cup and the Llandno International Trophy. After leading out the GB&I team in all four Walker Cup sessions at Lahinch, captain David Scott chose to send Ireland’s only representative first in the morning foursomes, with Simon Thornton and Matthew Ford facing Ben Kern and Michael Kartrude. Thornton, a two-time Elavon Order of Merit champion for the Irish Region, and Ford are former DP World Tour players. Kern qualified for the PGA Championship at Aronimink and made the cut, finishing as the top club professional. Matchups continue with an all-Scottish pairing for GB&I (Gavin Hay and Graeme Robertson) against Austin Hurt and Ryan Lenahan, plus an all-English pairing versus Zach Haynes and Garrett Sapp. The anchor match has Toby Hunt and Ben Amor versus Tyler Collett and Jesse Droemer. The U.S., defending champions seeking a fourth straight win, will need to respond to a ten-man GB&I roster determined to stop past dominance.
