Are Celtic reacting quickly enough to 'wake-up call'?
Celtic’s permanent appointment of Martin O’Neill on a one-year contract has come with a clear warning that last season acted as a “wake-up call” and the club may not be moving quickly enough. The 74-year-old said he expects “a tough old time” for the Scottish champions in the new campaign, while anticipating renewed battles with Hearts and Rangers. O’Neill stated that Rangers are likely to get stronger and that Hearts will not be pushed aside, pointing to how opponents closed the gap on Celtic more than before last season. He was appointed on 11 June, nearly three weeks after the season ended, with additional backroom staff confirmed two weeks later on the same day players returned for pre-season. Celtic have made no signings so far, while Hearts have reportedly signed seven and Rangers have added Lawrence Shankland and Ross McCrorie.
