Aston Villa compound Tottenham's misery despite late rally
Aston Villa delivered a 3-2 win over Tottenham in north London on Saturday, ending Spurs’ league goal drought too late to avoid another poor start. Tottenham still hasn’t won a league match this season and scored their first goals of the campaign only after falling behind 3-0. Villa, which struggled for goals after last season’s Europa League-winning side was reshaped in the transfer window, found balance through new signings Johan Manzambi and Nicolas Jackson. Manzambi opened the scoring just after half-time and Jackson added a second. Emi Buendía then struck from long range for Villa’s third. Tottenham’s late comeback included a goal that took a deflection off Villa and another in stoppage time, but Villa’s victory still leaves Spurs rooted in the relegation zone heading into a three-week international break.
