Aston Villa extends Amadou Onana's contract to 2031 in show of faith during ACL recovery

Aston Villa have extended Amadou Onana’s contract through June 2031, adding two years to an agreement that had been due to run out in 2029. The decision comes while the 25-year-old midfielder recovers from a torn ACL, an injury he sustained in July at the 2026 World Cup during Belgium’s match against the USA. Onana is expected to miss most or all of the 2026-27 season. Signed from Everton for £50 million in July 2024, he has made 72 appearances for Villa, scoring seven and helping drive their 2025-26 Europa League title success.
