Bluesky Matches TikTok on Video Length but Still Pays Creators Nothing

Bluesky says it is tripling the maximum video length from three minutes to ten minutes, with a 300 MB file-size ceiling and upload speeds described as two to three times faster. The change was announced Aug. 26 and keeps Bluesky broadly competitive on recording limits, matching TikTok’s in-app ceiling while still exceeding Meta’s Threads cap of five minutes. However, the upgrade doesn’t create new money-making pathways for creators: as of Aug. 2026, Bluesky still has no ad-revenue sharing, creator funds, or in-app tipping. With monthly active users reportedly down by more than half from late-2024, the longer-video push arrives as a likely retention play, though it remains unclear if it’s enough.
