Brewers 4, Cubs 3: The Jacob Webb diaster, part 3
Milwaukee’s Brewers beat the Cubs 4-3 in 10 innings after a ninth-inning swing that began with Jacob Webb. With Chicago one strike away from a late rally win, Webb allowed a two-run homer that sent the game into extra frames, where the Brewers ultimately prevailed. The Cubs jumped on Webb’s counterpart, Jacob Misiorowski, scoring in the first inning on hits by Seiya Suzuki and Michael Busch. Milwaukee tied it in the bottom half with extra-base hits from Jackson Chourio and Brice Turang and then kept the score level through nine. David Peterson, though effective early, was pulled in the fifth after 83 pitches with only 47 strikes, and Chicago’s offense stalled until the ninth. Singles by Nico Hoerner and Pedro Ramirez, plus a Conforto walk, set up Carson Kelly’s two-run double to give Chicago the lead before Webb’s deciding homer.
