Critically ill' passenger removed from cruise ship in Long Beach

A “critically ill” passenger aboard the Carnival Firenze was hospitalized after first responders transported them from the cruise ship to shore in Long Beach on Tuesday. The Long Beach Fire Department said Marine Safety crews responded at about 7 a.m., near the Long Beach Sea Buoy, to assist the ship’s crew. Long Beach lifeguards and firefighters coordinated the transfer and brought the patient to land, after which the person was taken to a local hospital. Video and photos posted to social media show a lifeguard boat alongside the vessel and the patient being carried down stairs above the water. Authorities did not release details on the illness or current condition, and Carnival Cruise Line had not responded to KTLA.
