Double-murder suspect caught after CHP deploys spike strips, uses PIT maneuver

A double-murder suspect was arrested after CHP used spike strips and a PIT maneuver to stop the fleeing vehicle following a chase from Pomona into Kern County. Around 3:30 p.m., Pomona Police received a “shots-fired call with multiple individuals injured,” according to a California Highway Patrol release, and two people later died from their injuries. CHP supported the response with an overhead plane and used its license plate reader network to locate the suspect’s car. About two hours later, officials said the suspect was spotted driving northbound on the 5 Freeway near Roxford Street in a black Kia sedan. Officers pursued for more than 1 hour and 30 minutes across multiple counties, including Kern and Los Angeles. The CHP reported the suspect was stopped using spike strips and then captured via a PIT maneuver. CHP identified the 48-year-old as Robert Galtman, booked Thursday night at about 11:30 p.m., held on $3.1 million bail.
