Dozens Detained at Communist Party Rally in Moscow
About 60 people were detained in Moscow as a rally held by Russia’s Kremlin-friendly Communist Party was ending, the party said. The detentions, according to the party’s statement, targeted mostly young participants, and its Moscow branch was working to secure their release. The event marked the anniversary of the Kremlin’s 1993 crushing of a parliamentary uprising. A Telegram channel, Ostorozhno Novosti, reported chants including “Freedom for political prisoners,” “For fair elections,” and “Down with the Tsar.” The rally came amid rising public frustration tied to intensifying Ukrainian drone attacks that have reportedly hit oil refineries and warehouses, contributing to fuel shortages and disruptions in daily life, including in Moscow. The violence culminated in military shelling of parliament; authorities said 123 died.
