Factory trip from Coventry Airport to England match remembered

Coventry's factory workers’ memory anchors Coventry Airport's 90‑year history as it closes. A 1956 photo shows about 30 men boarding a Dakota DC‑3 bound for Hampden Park in Glasgow to watch England v Scotland, part of the British Home Championship that finished 1‑1. Among them were Rolls‑Royce engineers; Stan Aldenton recalled the flight lasting a couple of hours. The closure comes after Coventry opened as Baginton Aerodrome in 1936, with Take That the last passengers, and will give way to GreenPowerPark, a £2.5 billion energy project expected to create thousands of jobs.
