Fever avoid addressing pro-Cunningham rally
Sophie Cunningham and Caitlin Clark were not made available to address media questions after Indiana Fever beat the Seattle Storm 105-95 on Tuesday night. The questions centered on a rally held outside Climate Pledge Arena supporting Cunningham after she backed barring transgender athletes in a recent ESPN article. A small crowd of a few dozen also promoted Washington statewide Initiatives 638 and 011, which would bar transgender students from joining girls’ athletics at Washington schools. Cunningham was booed by Storm fans when she checked into the game and during her first free throws. Fever’s public relations representative said neither the organization nor Cunningham knew about the demonstration and had no contact with its organizers. Kelsey Mitchell and Monique Billings, along with coach Stephanie White, spoke to reporters instead.
