Fishing club introduces kids to fun of sport

A Lake Milton, Ohio, a local fishing club spent the morning introducing children to the sport of fishing. Cleveland Chapter Number 23 of the Ohio Huskie Muskie Club, Inc. hosted the Cindy Dean Memorial Kids Fishing Derby at the Harry Meshel Picnic Area in Lake Milton State Park for about four hours on a Saturday morning. Now in its 32nd year, the derby aims to spark interest in fishing among youth and build foundational skills. Chris DePaola, the club’s youth director, said many kids do not know how to fish or lack interest, so the event is designed to plant the seed for future participation. The derby is held on the first Saturday of June each year to engage families and promote education through hands-on activities.
