Graham Platner will headline Labor Day rally in Maine

Former U.S. Senate candidate Graham Platner will headline a Labor Day rally in Ellsworth, Maine, on Sept. 7 at noon, local Hancock County Democrats say. The event is meant to kick off a series of activities leading up to the primaries. Platner is expected to speak about the history of unions and the role organized labor has played in communities and across the country, and the program will also include musical performances. Platner won the Democratic primary in June but withdrew from the Senate race in July after allegations of sexual assault reported by Politico; he denied the claims. After he stepped aside on July 10, Troy Jackson emerged as the party’s nominee and will face Republican Sen. Susan Collins in November.
