Heaven 17
Heaven 17 delivered a club-style performance in Dundee at the city’s Music Hall, drawing on the band’s politically aware synth-pop and dancefloor roots. The Sheffield group opened with politically charged tracks including “Crushed By The Wheels Of Industry” and “(We Don’t Need This) Fascist Groove Thang,” originally released in 1983 and 1981. Frontman Glenn Gregory and mastermind Martyn Ware were joined by a five-piece lineup featuring backing singers Hayley Williams and Rachel Meadows, and keyboardist Florence Sabeva, whose arrangements enabled live versions of material such as “And That’s No Lie” from the 1984 album How Men Are. The set mixed mid-tempo moments like “Come Live With Me” with higher-energy material including “This I Mine” and a Giorgio Moroder tribute “I’m Your Money” with its Love To Love You Baby intro. The encore included a tribute to late Associates frontman Billy Mackenzie, referencing his first whippet puppy and a memorial performance connection.
