xCruzo Brief

France’s drought conditions are already shaping summer travel, with fewer rainfall levels and widespread water restrictions affecting holiday plans. The country recorded 45% less rainfall than a typical June, and Indre, Centre-Val de Loire reported the driest June since records began. By July 15, 99 French departments had some form of water ban, including 43 in “crisis,” the highest restriction tier, according to environment minister Monique Barbut. In Lyon, which is on “alert” level, routine rules allow garden watering only outside 10am–6pm, and fines can reach €1,500. In other regions such as central/eastern France and parts of Normandy, hosepipe bans can cover daytime hours, car washing is prohibited, and refilling private pools is not allowed. Low river levels have disrupted cruise and sightseeing elsewhere in Europe, but France’s River Garonne sailings have not been cancelled.
