Johnson Siding Volunteer Fire Department Reports Busy August During Rally Season

The Johnson Siding Volunteer Fire Department in South Dakota reported a busy August during the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally period. Officials said crews answered an above-average number of calls as tens of thousands of visitors increased traffic and activity in the Black Hills. Department crews handled nine injury-related vehicle crashes during the month. Even with heightened fire danger this summer, wildfire activity stayed below expectations, which officials attributed to timely rainfall and ongoing public awareness efforts. Overall, the department responded to 28 calls, including fire and smoke investigations, medical emergencies, service requests, and a water rescue or recovery incident. They also assisted nearby departments and the Pure Pactola Swim event.
