Jon Martin interview: Real Sociedad and Spain defender on why he is staying at his 'home' amid interest from biggest clubs

Real Sociedad defender Jon Martín says he intends to stay at La Real despite reported interest from clubs such as Real Madrid, Barcelona, and sides in the Premier League. Speaking ahead of the Basque derby against Athletic Club in Bilbao on Sunday, the 20-year-old centre-back said he feels a sense of belonging because he has been at the club since age 12. He described himself as a ball-playing defender with technical ability and a passing range, and noted he made his Spain debut this summer. Martín credited coach Pellegrino Matarazzo with helping develop a more positive style and praised the coach’s closeness and trust. He expects San Mamés to be a different experience, citing five of his first 27 starts there.
