Larry Christenson, pitcher on Phillies' 1980 World Series-winning team, dies at 72

Larry Christenson, a right-handed pitcher and member of the Philadelphia Phillies’ 1980 World Series-winning team, died Friday at age 72. Christenson spent his entire MLB career with the franchise and passed away while on a fishing trip in Washington with friends and family, the Phillies said. Drafted No. 3 overall in 1972, he debuted at 19 and threw a complete-game shutout win over the New York Mets on April 13, 1973, striking out three. He later hit 11 career home runs, tying Rick Wise for a Phillies pitcher franchise lead. In 1980, he went 5-1 in 73.2 innings.
