Loss for culture, another win for corporate': Partygoers on Dublin nightclub Izakaya's closing night

Izakaya Basement, a Dublin nightclub associated with the city’s rave ecosystem, closed after a “mutually beneficial agreement” involving its owners and the neighboring Hoxton Hotel. The final night unfolded on Saturday, with a long queue already wrapping around the Hoxton before the club opened for what was billed as its last dance. The nightclub shut down for the final time at 2:30 a.m. on Sunday, but the upstairs restaurant is scheduled to remain open until the end of the year. The closure follows legal proceedings earlier in the year in High Court, where representatives of the Hoxton Hotel sought an injunction tied to late-night DJ events at Izakaya Basement. Company owner Yamamori Izakaya had previously reached a mutually beneficial agreement with Trinity Hospitality, the Hoxton leaseholder, one month before the last closure. DJs and partygoers described the end as another setback for grassroots music culture in Dublin.
