Luigi Mangione's trip to court was delayed by an unexpected problem
Luigi Mangione’s trip to court was delayed by an unexpected problem after he was held up by a stuck elevator at a Manhattan courthouse. He was expected in court on Monday, but sources said the malfunction occurred while he was being brought in a secure back elevator to his hearing, with building engineers called to free Mangione and two deputies. The sources said he was trapped for about 10 minutes, while a court official said he arrived more than half an hour late. Mangione entered through the judge’s door, according to the official. In court, U.S. District Judge Margaret Garnett addressed scheduling for his federal case, setting jury selection for Jan. 5 and opening statements and testimony for Jan. 25, shifting from Nov. 4. She postponed the federal trial to allow focus on a state murder trial set to begin Sept. 8. Mangione has pleaded not guilty to state and federal charges.
