James “Jim” Copenhaver, 76, died after being critically wounded in the July 13 shooting at Trump’s campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, according to reporting cited by LBC. His death was first announced on X by journalist Ken Silva, who said Copenhaver had permanent injuries and bullet fragments still inside him. After the attack, Copenhaver became a prominent voice among victims. The gunman, Thomas Matthew Crooks, was killed by a Secret Service sniper at the scene.
