Matt Henry bags 11 wickets as New Zealand crush England in 2nd Test to level series
Matt Henry’s 11-wicket match haul powered New Zealand to a dominant 253-run victory over England at The Oval, leveling their three-match Test series at 1-1. Henry took 11 wickets across two innings, including two five-wicket hauls, as England struggled to handle his tight line and length after winning at Lord’s. The match followed New Zealand’s decision to bat first after England won the toss; after a shaky start, Glenn Phillips struck a maiden Test hundred (100 off 135 balls) and New Zealand posted 391 in the first innings. Henry then recorded five wickets for 80 as England were bowled out for 291. England’s chase began poorly, with Joe Root scoring 77 and Harry Brook 58 off 54, but Henry took six wickets in the second innings. The final Test at Trent Bridge starts next Thursday, 25 June, with reports suggesting Ben Stokes and Gus Atkinson could return amid an ECB probe.
