Missing STT fisherman found at sea in area seven miles west of King airport

A missing fisherman, identified as Condrad E. Pondt, was found at sea hours after the U.S. Coast Guard issued an alert during an ongoing search. The alert was triggered because he did not return as expected following a fishing trip a day earlier. Pondt, whose age officials reported as either 54 or 53, was discovered at about 11:23 a.m. on Friday. Authorities said he was “sitting on a rock near the shoreline of Savana Island,” an area roughly 7 miles west of King Airport, according to a statement released later that night by the V.I. Police Department. The V.I. Police Department was one of the partner agencies involved in the search, with coordination beginning after the Coast Guard notice.
