MLB roundup: Giants cap rally from 8-run deficit with walk-off slam
The Giants capped an eight-run rally by walking off the Nationals 11-10, scoring 10 runs in the final two innings. Matt Chapman and Rafael Devers homered as San Francisco surged to force the late-deciding moment. Bryce Eldridge then hit a walk-off grand slam with no outs off Mitchell Parker, a towering shot that cleared Oracle Park’s right-field wall. Eldridge, at 21, became the youngest MLB player to hit a walk-off grand slam, 109 days younger than Roberto Clemente. Foster Griffin worked six innings, allowing one run on six hits, and Reiver Sanmartin earned the win in his Giants debut.
Also on Wednesday, Pittsburgh defeated Los Angeles 9-8, with Tyler Callihan homered twice, including one against Ohtani, to spark a comeback from a 6-1 deficit. Callihan gave the Pirates the lead with an eighth-inning three-run shot, and Evan Sisk earned the win in relief. In the Angels’ 3-2, 10-inning win over Houston, Jose Siri lined an RBI single to drive in the automatic runner after Logan O’Hoppe homered and Mike Trout contributed a homer, a walk and a steal. Texas outlasted Kansas City 6-4 in 10 innings as Jake Burger homered off the bench and Elias Díaz delivered the tiebreaking double.
