Morocco's Aquaculture Sector Hits 244 Projects, Targets 90,000 Tons Annual Production
Morocco’s aquaculture sector is expanding under a target production plan that reaches 90,000 tons per year from a portfolio of 244 active projects. The figures were reported by the National Agency for the Development of Aquaculture (ANDA) during the 27th session of its Board of Directors in Rabat, chaired by Secretary of State for Maritime Fisheries Zakia Driouich. ANDA said the sector is expected to strengthen Morocco’s “blue economy,” support food sovereignty, and create sustainable jobs. Driouich described aquaculture as a key pillar of the Halieutis strategy and a lever to diversify national fisheries production, linking it to challenges such as food security and sustainable marine resource use. The board reviewed progress in hatchery expansion, improvements in processing and value-added facilities, and competitiveness measures including support for strategic inputs and investment facilitation. It also cited international cooperation with the World Bank, Islamic Development Bank, and JICA. The 2025 activity report and financial statements were approved, certified without reservation by an external auditor, reflecting “good governance.”
