The weather is cool, but the cruise competition is hot in Alaska
Alaska’s weather may be cool, but the cruise industry’s competition is heating up as operators invest in upgraded ships and destination-focused programming. The Cruise Lines International Association projects about 1.7 million cruise passengers for the year, with lines renovating ships and adding Alaska-specific itineraries. Notable upgrades include Celebrity Cruises renewing the Solstice, MSC Cruises refurbishing the Poesia, and Virgin Voyages’ Alaska debut with Brilliant Lady, as both new entrants and established players race to offer more immersive experiences at premium price points. The season features busy ports like HOONAH and Icy Strait Point, where Celebrity Solstice and MS Eurodam were seen during sail away, underscoring Alaska’s evolving appeal.
