Nigeria launches $500 million farm fund to drive food security

Nigeria has launched a $500 million agriculture investment fund aimed at improving food security in the oil-producing Niger Delta region, Vice President Kashim Shettima said on Wednesday in Abuja. Speaking at an investment summit for the region, Shettima said the program is designed to raise food output, attract private investment, and strengthen resilience in key food supply areas. The fund is expected to back sectors including aquaculture, palm oil, and marine resources, using financing from multilateral lenders alongside private investors. The initiative matters for Nigeria’s food security goals while targeting a development priority in the Niger Delta. It also sets a benchmark for blending public-private capital to mobilize regional agricultural growth.
