Nuclear power could more than triple by 2060, the head of the UN’s nuclear agency said, pointing to electrification, data centers powered by artificial intelligence, and growing demand from technology companies for reliable, carbon-free electricity. Rafael Grossi made the forecast in the International Atomic Energy Agency’s annual report to the UN General Assembly. He said 2025 saw more than 400 operating reactors in over 30 countries generate 10% of global electricity and a quarter of low-carbon power. More than 60 new reactors are under construction, and projections for future capacity have risen sharply. Grossi also warned about nuclear risks tied to Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia plant, Iran, and North Korea.
