One-tank road trips to try across Northern California this summer. See the list.
Summer road trip season is here as gas prices swing, but travelers can enjoy short getaways on a single tank of fuel. June 18 marks National Dump the Pump Day, encouraging alternatives to driving when possible. CBS Sacramento has assembled a list of one-tank road trips across Northern California and beyond, highlighting destinations generally reachable from Sacramento on one tank, depending on vehicle, route, and how much exploring is done. The list cautions travelers to verify operating hours, parking rules, reservation requirements, and summer heat or fire conditions before leaving. Old Sacramento Waterfront offers Gold Rush era buildings, riverfront views, museums, shops and restaurants, and houses the California State Railroad Museum and the Sacramento History Museum. The Crocker Art Museum is nearby, with rotating exhibitions indoors to escape heat. Other stops include the American River Parkway, Folsom Lake State Recreation Area and Lake Natoma for water activities, William Land Park with the Sacramento Zoo and Funderland, the River Fox Train in West Sacramento, and stops at the PURE Honey and Henrys Bullfrog Bees apiary, plus Colusa County sites such as the Sacramento Valley Museum and Colusa National Wildlife Refuge.
