Philippines plans green energy auction for agrivoltaics, aquavoltaics - pv magazine Australia
The Philippines is preparing a new green energy auction focused on agrivoltaics and solar projects integrated with aquaculture, known as aquasolar. The Department of Energy (DOE) and the Department of Agriculture reviewed a draft memorandum of understanding for the 9th auction under the Green Energy Auction (GEA) program, or GEA-9. DOE says agrisolar and aquasolar installations can make better use of abandoned, underdeveloped and underutilized land and water while supporting food security and rural livelihoods. Terms of Reference are targeted for publication in the fourth quarter of 2026. The broader plan includes auctions GEA-6 through GEA-9 to reach 25 GW of renewables by 2035. Separately, the DOE plans an off-grid auction for 20 islands next year using renewables plus battery energy storage to replace diesel generation.
